I’m having a problem with the current implementation of multiple companies.
I run and accounting practice focused in Tax.
So my clients sometimes have their personal tax returns, multiple companies, and multiple trusts taken care of by our firm.
If I set up multiple companies, their individual stuff (like their individual files channel) is allocated to the first company tab. But it’s not intuitive for the client. I think individual should be separate. Or there should be the ability to toggle off the multiple company view altogether and a client should be able to view all separate company “files tabs “ without having to switch to the other company.
The current implementation is problematic for my client base.
Hey @Andrew_Lowe thanks for your sharing your feedback. Your use case makes sense. We work with many accounting firms that handle a mix of personal returns, multiple companies, and trusts for the same client, so we’ve seen this scenario come up before.
One approach that’s worked well for other customers is creating a separate “Personal” company for the client. Any individual files or communication can be shared with that Personal company, which keeps everything separated and avoids having their personal items appear under the first company tab.
That said, I may be misunderstanding part of your request. When you say you’d prefer individual items to be separate or to have the option to toggle off the multiple-company view, can you clarify how you’d ideally like the client to see things on their end?
The only thing my clients need is a separate Files Channel for each entity they control (Personal Tax Returns, Corporation Tax Returns, Trust Tax Returns, etc.).
So honestly, if I could make different File Channels with different titles available to the same individual (without having to add companies), that would be the best for the workflow.
I have clients who have 10-20 corporations in their structure and it’s clunky right now to have to go into separate tabs then to access files for each one as it requires so many more navigations steps than to just have separate file channels be able to be created and named.
To make sure we fully understand the pain point, can you clarify why the current setup is problematic for your clients? Is it that the separation between their personal, company, and trust information feels confusing, or are clients not noticing the switcher UI on the left side and therefore missing where to find the other views?
The goal of the current design is to keep each area clearly separated so clients always know what context they’re in, but your note about clients wanting everything in one place is valuable for us to hear. Any additional detail you can share about where your clients get stuck will help us explore improvements.
The main pain point is that our clients want only one consolidated view - it’s especially difficult for clients who have multiple engagements with us (multiple companies, multiple trusts, and their individual tax returns and maybe the tax returns of their family members who they manage through Power of Attorney) .
They do not want the UI switcher in that context because everything they need to get done is under a different tab in the UI switcher which there be so many more navigation steps just to get where you want to go.
From the client point of view, if they’re the contact point for all these engagements, they want a single UI to download all the bills, a single UI to access each file channel, and a single UI to access all the signature requests. Otherwise, when we send things to them and there’s dozens of individual companies in the UI tab, it’s very overwhelming for them and not easy to view everything at once.
If it would be possible to set up separate file channels with the same individual, that is the only degree of separation/organization the client would need for our client base, but they want that accessible within the same UI without needing a UI switcher.
Could you please tell me if it’s possible to just set up Separate File Channels with the same individual? Or if it’s able to be implemented like that in the future? Our clients really need that as soon as possible.
I was just discussing this with my client today (I am a consultant and set up their Assembly for them). They also were asking if they could set up multiple file channels, but you can only set up one per company/user.
Thanks everyone for the thoughtful feedback, this is really helpful, and I’ve shared it with our team.
At the moment, the client experience is designed so that each company has its own separate view, which means we can only support one Files channel per company/user. A fully consolidated view across all of a client’s companies, trusts, and personal items isn’t something the platform can support right now.
I completely understand why a single, unified place to see all files, bills, and signature requests would be valuable for clients who manage multiple engagements. The pain points you’ve described around extra navigation and clients feeling overwhelmed are valid, and this context is important for us as we think about future improvements.
To clarify one specific question: it isn’t currently possible to set up multiple separate Files channels for the same individual. If this becomes something we’re able to support in the future, we’ll be sure to share updates.
Thanks again for taking the time to outline your use case, it genuinely helps guide our direction.
