Client is client as an individual and as a contact on a company

When the above is the case, we can only access the company, never the individual. What is the workaround for having both as clients?

Hi John,

What we did in here was have every “Client” also a company. We’re an accounting firm so it looks like this:
Clients:
John Smith
Jane Smith
Peter Piper

Companies:
John’s Smiths (John Smith linked as client)
John and Jane Smith ( John Smith and Jane Smith linked as clients)
Peter Piper (Peter Piper linked as client)
Pipers Flutes (John Smith and Peter Piper linked as clients)

Let me know if that helps answer your question.

You must be playing with me as that makes no sense at all.

Hi John,

As I mentioned, I’m not sure this addresses your issue directly, but it works perfectly for us. Maybe I should have clarified, that everything is done on the company level. All invoices sent are to the “Company”, and any attached client can pay them. Forms to sign are always tagged to a client, but you can assign them to the client or the company for that client. When we send out 8821 forms to sign, they get assigned to each client of each of their Companies.

Using this method, if filing joint clients get divorced, and we now have two separate clients (each their own company), we just add a new company for each and tag each spouse to their new Company. They can still view all their old records while married as they’re tagged to the joint account, but neither can see the other’s new Company and the docs, forms, invoices, and filed returns there.

Let me know if that helps explain things at all. And I apologize if this is off-track to what your issue is. Just trying to help!

Many thanks for the clarification! :slightly_smiling_face:
