Task notifications to client not working; can't edit client notification/reminder settings

I’m running into an issue with assigning tasks to clients.

  • If I create a task with no due date, the client never gets a notification that there is a task waiting for them.
  • If I add a due date when the task is created or add one later, the client does get a notification

And, the Guide says that client notifications can be edited under Settings > Client Notifications but all I see there is an on-off toggle for client notifications. There is no way to check or change the notification settings, either globally or within the Tasks app that I can find.

Help!

Hi @Aerin_Cunningham

Thanks for flagging this! A couple of clarifications:

Clients should receive a notification when a task is assigned to them, even if the task has no due date. What they won’t receive without a due date is reminders, since those are tied to the due date itself. If you’re seeing cases where the initial assignment notification isn’t going out at all, please email us at support@assembly.com with the client’s name, the task name, and any other identifying details, and we’ll look into it for you.

On the settings piece, you’re right that there aren’t granular client-level notification settings at the moment beyond the on/off toggle. If you can share more about the kinds of settings you’d want to control, we’re happy to file a feature request with our product team.

Thanks!

Feature requests at your request, with examples:

  • notifications & reminders
    • choose which notifications are active (clients do not want a notification when a doc is uploaded, especially when I am uploading multiple documents)
    • control whether and how often reminders are sent out globally plus the ability to edit reminders on an individual task if there is an exception
  • tasks
    • add notifications and reminders going out to the Activity log so we can see whether they were sent in case a client claims they did not get them
